Teachers Day 2020!

Held annually on 5 October since 1994, World Teachers Day commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. This Recommendation sets benchmarks regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions. The Recommendation concerning the Status of Higher-Education Teaching Personnel was adopted in 1997 to complement the 1966 Recommendation by covering teaching and research personnel in higher education.

With the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goal 4 on education, and the dedicated target (SDG 4.c) recognizing teachers as key to the achievement of the Education 2030 agenda, WTD has become the occasion to mark progress and reflect on ways to counter the remaining challenges for the promotion of the teaching profession.

World Teachers Day is co-convened in partnership with UNICEF, the International Labour Organization and Education International.

Classes six to eight resumed from Sept 23 in phase two while primary students are set to return to schools on Sept 30.

Sindh Delays Resumption of Classes

Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani on Friday announced that the resumption of school classes for students of grade six until eight, scheduled for Monday, will be delayed by a week after schools were observed not fully following coronavirus health guidelines.

Back to School!

Educational institutions across the country will reopen in phases starting September 15, Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood announced on Monday, nearly six months after the coronavirus pandemic sent students home.

Highlights:

- Universities, colleges and classes 9-12 to resume on Sept 15
- Classes 6-8 to return on Sept 23 after a review
- Primary schools to reopen on Sept 30 in last phase
- Strength of students in classes to be halved

SOPs for Schools

Pakistan has prepared guidelines for educational institutes as they prepare to reopen on September 15.

The final decision on the reopening of the institutes will be made on September 7 in a meeting chaired by Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood.

The education ministry has issued the following instructions to the schools and parents.

- Parents must pick and drop their own children and not let them use public transport.
- All students will be screened as soon as they enter the school building.
- Students won’t be allowed to sit in classes if they have flu, cough, or fever.
- It is compulsory for all students to maintain social distancing, wash their hands, and wear maks.
- No assembly will be held.
- Classes to be held in two shifts of four hours each.
- Break/Recess will be given to students in shifts too.
- There should not be any rush outside canteens and students must bring food from home.

On Friday, Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood and Dr Faisal Sultan, the PM’s assistant on health, issued a list of precautionary measures that all schools will have to follow when educational institutions reopen.

Schools and parents will have to adhere to the following instructions after the institutions reopen:

- First secondary classes will start first after which primary classes will begin
- The number of students in a class will be reduced, which means that half of the students will attend the session one day and the other half on the other day
- Students will have to wear face masks at all times. Dr Sultan said that it’s better if the masks are made at home
- Social distancing and washing hands should be strictly implemented
- Sanitisers should be installed in schools and students should be encouraged to use them repeatedly
- Every student attending school in-person will have to get tested for coronavirus in two weeks
- Students with lower immunity levels should not be sent to school
- Students will have lunch inside class during breaks

NO WINTER VACATIONS

Pakistan’s educational institutions will remain open on Saturdays and will have no winter vacations this year, according to a notification issued by the federal education ministry.

The institutions have been instructed to hold special classes on Saturdays.

All educational institutions across the country were closed in late February after coronavirus cases had spiked. According to reports, the cases are on a downward trend now. Following this, the private schools owners have been demanding the schools be reopened immediately.

LETTER TO PARENTS

Dear Parent or Guardian,

I am writing to tell you about some of our initiatives that we have taken recently.

The most important among all is our online portal service for all parents and students. We are, indeed, thankful to all the parents who have appreciated us for our humble service to them. This online feature provides you an ample opportunity to access all the related information about your child and school at your home or office. Visit our website www.afsslarkana.com to see updated info about the school and login to your portal using your unique email and password provided by the school. In case you have missed it, please contact the undersigned.

Our Front Desk Office is yet another feature greatly appreciated by lot of parents and visitors. Our one-window operation service resolves all your issues there and then. Now you are not required to come over and over for your day-to-day issues. Our trained staff will listen to you attentively and resolve your issues on top priority basis. We feel pride in helping you.

We are also introducing Friday Freedom programme where children will be allowed to come to school in casual dress once in every week. This freedom from uniform makes children feel at home. This Friday freedom opportunity is initially for preschool and primary students (Grade I-V) only. I feel that education of children should be the priority, not school uniforms. All focus is now shifted to provide the best education that your child deserves. We have reduced the maximum strength in any grade from 30 to 24. We have taken this step to enhance our focus on each individual child. We have also catered for professional development of our teaching faculty.

As far as school fee is concerned, a 25% sibling discount will now apply to third and subsequent children from the same family who are in the school at the same time. All other discounts, if offered to any parent earlier, have been discontinued with this effect. The annual charges are also abolished with immediate effect. However, the school will charge Rs. 100 per month in the head of other facilitation that will include multimedia, artwork, worksheets, music, library, sports, general school events, standby generator, online facility, telephone service, health and hygiene. In addition to this there will be Rs 200 per month in the head of lab charges for both computer and science laboratories.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about the school.

Sincerely yours,

Mujeeb Rehman
School Director

BOOKFAIR 2018-19

The school organizes a grand Bookfair on 10-11 January 2019. Bookfairs give children a motivation to read by offering them a wide selection of books to choose from that they can look at before they decide to buy. Our bookfair gives them an even bigger selection because we get books from many different publishers.

We wish to give parents and kids an opportunity to pick out and read books together. This increases the likelihood that they will want to continue reading. Our bookfair gives you the chance to instill a love of reading that lasts a lifetime. What could possibly be a more lasting impression

We also want to give teachers a chance to see and buy books they might want for their classroom.

DIRECTORS MEET

A team from Regional Directorate of Private Schools Larkana visited the school on January 9, 2019. REPORT CARD PROBLEM!

By Sarah D. Sparks, Dec. 18, 2018

No student is eager to show her parents a less-than-stellar report card, but a new study suggests bad grades may put some children at risk for physical abuse, and the timing of those grades matters.

A new study in the journal JAMA Pediatrics finds a nearly fourfold jump in verified physical child-abuse cases on Saturdays after report cards were released the previous Friday—suggesting they may have been punishments related to the grades.

Think! Are you this kind of parent
